That Kiggin - Gallimore LInk

Now to explain fully the Kiggin Gallimore link.

First some history.
My Grandmother, Alice Kiggin was born Alice Hindley on 27th January 1910. Her mother was Mary Ann Gallimore, daughter of Hanna (nee Grocot) and Enoch Gallimore. Mary Ann married Robert Hindley in Leigh, Lancashire in 1898. Robert was a miner. They had 7 children, the eldest being Clara Jane born in 1899(She was another story) and Sarah Ellen was born in 1902.

Sometime between 1902 and 1910 the family moved to Hemsworth in North Yorkshire, which is a mining town. I think he may have moved with other family members as there were quite a few children born to Hindleys' here.

Besides Alice they also had Joseph in 1911 before returning to Leigh. Joseph was a sad young man. He had been engaged but had been thrown over by his fiance. He was so devastated that he hung himself in 1932 aged just 20 years old.

Clara Jane at some point changed her name to Masie. I had always known her as Maisie and when I mentioned Clara Jane to her nephew, he had never heard of her. Luckily enough there is an older family member who knew her. Clara Jane was, to coin a phrase, a bit of a goer. She had quite a reputation and was in all sorts of trouble including shoplifting!!!!!

Another brother was Robert Hindley jnr who played for Swansea FC in the 1940's. I know this is true but I have found minimal amounts of evidence. There is some information on the internet but not a lot.

The final 2 children were Doris, born 1915 and Molly born in 1921.

I knew very little about about this untill my grandmother passed away in 1995, when I was told who her mother was. As with some families, history was never discussed so I was left to discover it on my own.
